Eligibility / Admission

Acceleration refers to the strategy of teaching content at a faster pace and usually a year ahead of the designated instructional grade level placement. Accelerated Mathematics is for gifted and talented students who demonstrate above average mathematical understanding, problem solving, and reasoning skills.  Eligible  students are able to demonstrate that they grasp concepts quickly, see patterns, and make connections across disciplines and among operations. Students progress through the critical objectives, aligned with the Common Core State Standards, at an accelerated rate. 

 

To become eligible for the admission, the student must have above 80 NPR on one of the following standardize tests: Iowa Test, aimswebPlus, MAP test, PSAT, iReady, and other similar achievement tests. 

Successful participants in this program are expected to have:

  • strong problem-solving and abstract reasoning skills

  • strong spatial and visualization skills

  • a high level of interest in mathematics

  • a high level of self-motivation and strong work ethic

  • organizational and independent learning skills

  • the ability to communicate mathematical ideas in writing

  • academic maturity beyond their chronological years
